MEET THE BSA BOARD FALL 2016

CAITLIN: President

Hi everyone!  I am currently starting my second and final year at Penn for Biotech with a concentration in biopharmaceutical engineering.  I have a BA in Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware.  I am currently involved in other extracurricular activities on campus, as a board member on AWE (Advancing Women in Engineering) as well as participating in PBG Healthcare Consulting.  I have previously worked at a genetic targeting lab on campus and am currently a TA for Dr. Diamond’s fall course, Engineering Biotech.  I was an intern at AstraZeneca in Newark, DE this past summer.  After graduating in May 2017, my career focus is to go into either pharma or biopharma industry particularly in production and manufacturing.

HARNGID: Vice President

Hi everyone! I am a 2nd year student in the Biopharmaceuticals/Engineering Biotechnology track, graduating in Spring 2017.  Prior to coming to Penn, I received my undergraduate degree from University of Michigan B.S., MPH from Columbia University, and Master of Finance from MIT Sloan.  I also worked as an investment banking analyst at Morgan Stanley and worked this past summer at a healthcare hedge fund in New York.  Please reach out with any questions if I can be helpful!

YU: Secretary

I am a second year master student major in biotechnology and working as the secretary in BSA. Before study in Penn, I studied biology at Nankai University in China. As a sports fan, I am in favor of badminton , basketball, ping-pong and Dota2(E-sports).  I am also a big fan of animation from USA, Japan, etc. My favorite animation is angel beats. If you have any confusion about BSA, biology or want to share same interests with me, please don`t hesitate to e-mail me.  In the future, I plan to further my study on biotechnology or bio-engineering as PhD. After that, I`d like to work  1 or 2 years gathering some working experience in Philadelphia before going to other places.

KANIKA: Public Relations Chair

Hi everyone, I am Kanika Jain, a final year student in the Master’s in Biotechnology program, enrolled in the Biopharmaceutical/Engineering subtrack. I am originally from India, born and brought up in Delhi. I did a Bachelor’s in Biotechnology from Southern part of india, then worked for a year in the Biologics department of a Biopharmaceutical company and finally moved to U.S. for my master’s. I am planning to apply for a PhD in Cancer Biology after graduating from the master’s program. Currently, I am working as a Research Assistant in Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute at Penn. My work is focused on Immunotherapy in sarcomas and Medulloblastomas. Apart from devoting my time to cancer research, I am an avid reader, enjoy creative writing and taking long walks to explore the beautiful historic streets of Philadelphia. CINDY: GSEG Rep

Hi everyone! I am a 2nd year student in the Biopharmaceuticals/Engineering Biotechnology track, graduating in Spring 2017. I am originally from Taiwan, grew up in California and received my undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley. After graduating, I hope to work in pharmaceutical regulatory affairs. At Penn, I have worked with PBG Healthcare Consulting and tutored at-risk youths through the Petey Greene Program. I am also a regular attendee of Grace Covenant Church. For fun, I enjoy running along the Schuylkill River, finding the best coffee in town and reading nonfiction. Tanvi:

Hello! I am s second year student in the molecular biology track. I am from India and did my undergrad in Biotechnology there. I am currently involved with two labs – one is working on DNA vaccines and the other on psychiatry disorders. I am also interested in learning more about tissue engineering and cancer biology. I enjoy dancing and am working on creating a bollywood dance club for grad students.
